During the holiday season, it seems like there’s a Christmas party every weekend. From the delicious spread of cookies to the festive ugly sweater competitions and fun Christmas games, what’s not to love? I would argue that my church group hosts the best Christmas party, and the memories we create each year are ones I truly cherish. We always have such a fantastic time together, filled with laughter and a spirit of joy.
Over the years, we’ve played many different holiday games that bring us together, helping us to celebrate the true meaning of Christmas while having a lot of fun. Here are some of my favorite Christmas party games for church groups, perfect for your next holiday gathering!
Christmas Party Games for Church Groups
1. Christmas Carol Pictionary
A classic favorite! Write down a list of popular Christmas carols on separate flashcards. Divide the group into teams, and one player from each team will draw a card. They then have one minute to illustrate the Christmas carol on a whiteboard or large sheet of paper while their team tries to guess the carol. If the team guesses correctly, they score a point. Rotate the artist every round to keep things fresh and exciting. The first team to reach 20 points wins.
2. Stocking Guessing Game
This game adds a little mystery and excitement to the Christmas party. A host stuffs a Christmas stocking with random items (such as a candy cane, ornament, or toy), then ties the top so no one can peek inside. Players sit in a circle and take turns feeling the stocking as it’s passed around. After each person has had a turn, they write down their guesses on note cards. The person who guesses the most correct items wins the game and gets a small prize.
3. Pin the Nose on Rudolph
This is a hilarious twist on the classic “Pin the Tail on the Donkey.” Print or draw a large image of Rudolph on a wall or poster board. Cut out a red circular piece of paper to serve as Rudolph’s nose. Blindfold each participant, spin them around a few times, and then have them try to pin the nose on Rudolph. Mark their attempt with their name, and let everyone take a turn. Whoever gets the closest to pinning the nose correctly wins.
Holiday Church Group Games
1. 20 Questions (Christmas Edition)
A fun and interactive guessing game, perfect for a group of any size. One person, the “answerer,” picks a Christmas-themed object, like a Christmas tree, mistletoe, or gingerbread house. The rest of the group takes turns asking “Yes” or “No” questions to figure out what the object is. If no one guesses correctly after 20 questions, the answerer wins the round and picks a new object. If someone guesses correctly before the 20 questions are used up, they get to choose the next object.
2. Stocking Fill-Up
This relay race is perfect for larger groups. Divide the group into two teams. Place a Christmas stocking at one end of the room for each team. Players take turns running to the stocking with a spoonful of candy (or small ornaments) and depositing the items inside. The first team to fill their stocking to the top wins! This game can be a bit messy but is sure to bring a lot of laughter.
3. Ornaments on a Spoon
This game is all about balance and coordination. Split the group into teams, and set up a relay course with or without obstacles (depending on the space available). Each player must carry a Christmas ornament on a spoon through the course. If they drop the ornament, they have to go back to the start and try again. The team that successfully completes the relay with the ornament intact wins the game.
Fun Church Christmas Party Games
1. Human Christmas Tree
One of the most hilarious and creative Christmas games! Designate 2 to 3 people as the “human Christmas trees.” Teams are given a variety of Christmas decorations (think tinsel, fake snow, ornaments, etc.) and must decorate the human tree within a time limit. A judge will decide which team created the most festive and fun “human tree.” This game always leads to laughs and some very creative decorations!
2. The Penguin Waddle
This game is guaranteed to get everyone moving and laughing. Divide players into teams of three or more, and set up cones spaced about 15 to 25 feet apart. The first player in each team must place a balloon between their knees and waddle like a penguin to the cone and back. They then pass the balloon to the next player, and the relay continues. If any player drops the balloon, they must restart from the beginning. The first team to complete the relay wins.
3. Gift Relay
This relay race is all about teamwork and coordination. Set up two tables for each team, about 20 feet apart, with five gifts on each table. One player from each team grabs a gift and carries it across the room to the other table. The next player must stack a second gift on top of the first one and carry the stack back to the starting table. This continues until all 10 gifts are stacked and carried across without dropping them. The team that finishes first wins the game.
More Games You Will Love
1. Icebreaker Games for Parties
No party is complete without a few icebreakers to get people mingling and having fun. Icebreaker games are especially great when the group is large, and not everyone knows each other. Try games like “Two Truths and a Lie” or “Who Am I?” to break the ice and get everyone talking. These games will quickly help your group feel comfortable and ready to enjoy the party.
2. Minute to Win It Games
“Minute to Win It” games are always a hit at parties, and they’re simple to set up. These games are short, fun, and designed to be completed in one minute, making them perfect for holiday gatherings. Some popular options include stacking cups, balancing ornaments on a spoon, or throwing ping-pong balls into cups. These games are perfect for any group size and will definitely get everyone laughing!
Final Thoughts
No matter which games you choose, Christmas party games for church groups are a great way to bring people together and celebrate the holiday season in a fun and festive way. These games are perfect for all ages and can be played in a variety of settings, whether you’re gathering in the church fellowship hall, a home, or even outdoors.
The most important part of these games is the fellowship and joy they bring. Christmas is about community, love, and sharing special moments with one another, and these games help create those memories. So this holiday season, gather your church group, get into the Christmas spirit, and have a blast with these fun Christmas party games!
