Today, I’m excited to share three easy handmade card ideas using a straightforward card template, along with the supplies you’ll need and tips to make your card-making experience enjoyable.

This particular template is designed for two rectangles, making it perfect for showcasing beautiful patterned paper, which adds depth and interest to your cards.
What You’ll Need
Before diving into the card-making process, gather the following supplies:
- Cardstock A: 8 1/2″ x 5 1/2″, scored at 4 1/4″ (card base)

For this card, I utilized the NEW Sentiment Christmas Designer Series Paper along with a sentiment from the Reindeer Days stamp set, both available from Stampin’ Up!®️. The combination of vibrant colors and festive patterns makes this card a cheerful addition to any holiday greeting.
Instructions
- Create the Card Base: Start with Cardstock A (8 1/2″ x 5 1/2″) and fold it in half to create your card base. I chose Pretty Peacock for a bold yet festive backdrop.
- Layer the Patterned Paper: Cut your patterned paper into the specified sizes. Layer Patterned Paper A (3 1/2″ x 2″) on Cardstock C (3 5/8″ x 2 1/8″) for the top section, and Patterned Paper B (5″ x 2 3/4″) on Cardstock B (2 1/4″ x 4 1/4″) for the bottom.
- Assemble: Adhere the top layer to the top half of your card base and the bottom layer to the bottom half. Use Shaded Spruce for a cohesive color scheme.
- Add the Sentiment: Stamp your sentiment onto the White or Vanilla Cardstock (1 1/4″ x 3″). Adhere it on top of the medium rectangle. Consider adding dimensionals behind it for extra depth.
- Finishing Touches: Optionally, embellish with sequins or other festive decorations. Your simple holiday card is now ready to spread some cheer!
Card Design #2: Handmade Thinking of You Card
Inspiration
This next card features the Thoughtful Journey patterned paper paired with the Wildflower Designs stamp set. It’s a lovely card to send when you want to let someone know you’re thinking of them, making it perfect for any time of year.
Instructions
- Create the Card Base: Use Cardstock A (8 1/2″ x 5 1/2″) and fold it in half. For this card, I opted for a Blackberry Bliss base for a rich, elegant look.
- Layer the Patterned Paper: Cut your patterned paper to the sizes specified. Layer Patterned Paper A (3 1/2″ x 2″) on Cardstock C (3 5/8″ x 2 1/8″) for the top section, and Patterned Paper B (5″ x 2 3/4″) on Cardstock B (2 1/4″ x 4 1/4″) for the bottom.
- Assemble the Card: Attach the top layer to the top half of your card base and the bottom layer to the bottom half. The contrast between Blackberry Bliss and the patterned paper creates a visually appealing design.
- Add Your Sentiment: Use White or Vanilla Cardstock (1 1/4″ x 3″) for the sentiment. Stamp a thoughtful message, and adhere it onto the larger layer from Cardstock C (5 1/8″ x 2 7/8″).
- Embellish: Add a few Faux Glass Dots to enhance the card’s elegance. Your Thinking of You card is now ready to send!
Card Design #3: DIY Christmas Card

For this festive card, I utilized the A Little Bit Festive Designer Series Paper and combined it with the Greetings of the Season stamp set. This card is perfect for anyone on your Christmas list.
Instructions
- Create the Card Base: Use Cardstock A (8 1/2″ x 5 1/2″) and fold it in half. I chose Basic Beige to allow the festive elements to shine.
- Cut the Patterned Paper: For the top section, layer Patterned Paper A (3 1/2″ x 2″) on Cardstock C (3 5/8″ x 2 1/8″), and for the bottom section, use Patterned Paper B (5″ x 2 3/4″) with Cardstock B (2 1/4″ x 4 1/4″).
- Assemble the Card: Attach the top layer to the top half of your card base and the bottom layer to the bottom half. This simple layout makes for a quick assembly.
- Add the Sentiment: Stamp your sentiment onto the White or Vanilla Cardstock (1 1/4″ x 3″). You can use one of the festive die-cuts from the A Little Bit Festive collection as an additional design element near your sentiment.
